We would like to help students in middle and high school realize how important it is to finish high school. High school dropouts fare worse than their peers on a variety of long-term outcomes. According to the National Center for Education. School dropouts are more likely to be unemployed or to earn less money than high school graduates do. Young women who drop out of high school are more likely to become pregnant at earlier ages and are more likely to be single parents. Dropouts are more likely to receive public assistance than graduates of high school. Dropouts comprise a disproportionate percentage of the nation's prison and death row inmates. For these reasons, we would like to persuade students that dropping out of high school has negative long term affects on their future.
