The Mushroom Effect / Information Design

The Mushroom Effect/Information Design

The first idea of this project was to explore a social issue that is affecting society. My first idea was to explore the relationship between the United States and Russia in the nuclear field. However, as I researched the exploration I had the following questions:

What happens if Russia or the United States starts a nuclear war? How many people will die if this happens? What are the consequences that will affect the planet and humankind?

For this reason, I wanted to use human elements to represent nuclear consequences,

such as windows or mirrors. The glass in the windows are shattered to represent the impact of the nuclear bombs. Also, the windows are burned according to the delay of the explosion.

Nuclear explosions produce immediate as well as delayed effects. There are three parts of the mushroom effect:

1) the blast damage,

2) thermal radiation

 3) nuclear fallout.

All of there cause significant destruction within seconds or minutes. The effects on humans and the environment inflict damage over an extended period of time ranging from hours to years.
